Embarking on the journey of becoming a Project Manager is exhilarating. I get it. But have you ever heard of “too much too soon”? Yeah, it’s not just a cliché phrase; it can have real repercussions.

I remember when I was rushing to get a job as a Project Manager:

I was so eager to get a job as a PM that I bypassed some key foundational elements. My enthusiasm overshadowed my judgment.

After three months of applying and failing interviews, I faced the reality that I lacked the foundational knowledge, and it took me a whole quarter to get back on track. 🥴

So here are the 3 steps I suggest you take Before Transitioning Into Project Management Career:

In Project Management, while certifications are valuable, some argue that having a string of project management certifications doesn’t necessarily equate to practical competence. Real-world experience and adaptability often play a more significant role in successful project management.

So, focus on gaining a real-life experience in your field instead. Learn project management foundations and use those skills in your current role. You will then be able to transfer that experience into project management.
